So after talking with others, looks like I'm going to be here for a while. Room 205's looking to be my new home from here on out. Fun. Found this journal on the table next to it, figure I might as well pass the time writing.
Wish I had a damn clue what's going on. Nobody thinks being outside is anything to worry about. People are talking about exorcising ghosts and coming back from the dead and magical islands kidnapping people and stealing their memories like they were going to the cafeteria to pick up food. We've gone past the point of creepiness and well into the realm of disturbing here.
Maybe I should try to piece things together on this downtime, see if I can trigger anything. There's this jumpsuit with 101 on the back. Thought it meant I'd be in Room 101, but I got no answer when I knocked on the door. Someone else's name is on the list, a Tanyuu? Doesn't sound familiar, but I was hoping maybe she'd recognize me. Nothing else on this thing to give me a clue.
This Pip-Boy, though, is something else altogether. Frustrating is certainly a good word for it. No logo on it except for Pip-Boy. It's permanently attached to my arm, or so it feels; nothing I did to it seemed to move it in the slightest, so I figure I should stop before I end up hurting myself. A few buttons, knobs and wheels to control the thing, but there's not all that much to control. I think I've figured out how it's supposed to work, but it might just be broken. The three buttons at the bottom switch between different functions and the knob switches between functions. I think, anyway. Might be the other way around, but the screens definitely change each time I do one of those things. Problem is, most of the screens are just garbled letters and assorted junk.
Pushed the first button and switched the knob through each screen. Couldn't make sense of any of them. The first screen had a distorted outline of a body, but no idea what it was there for. The second one had a different problem. Mostly blank screens. The second one had a bit more garbage on it, but it was still mostly blank.
The third one, though, either wasn't affected or is the only part that isn't 100% broken. The first screen is a local map. Looks like it charts the environment for you to make a short-range map. It's pretty accurate to where I've already been, so if I'm here for a while, I could just explore and make a map of the place. Has a compass, too, which is nice, and lets you set a destination. Only draws a straight line, but whatever. The second screen gives two choices - one leads to more junk, the other leads to a much zoomed out map. Assuming it works the same way, having my own trustworthy area map would be helpful. The last three screens are still junk, though. Still, nice to have something.
Oh yeah, turns out there's a button that makes the backlit part shine pretty bright. Works great as a flashlight.
Wish I came out of this with more, but I've got an idea how this thing works and a bit of an understanding behind at least some of its functions. Guess it wasn't a complete waste of time.
