Hey, so does anybody know a guy named Lincoln? His name's engraved on the side of this rifle I found in my room. Looks like a pretty old gun, so it probably wouldn't be somebody still alive, but hey. Not a bad little piece of machinery here.

...starting to remember home, too. Vault 101 wasn't the best of places to live, but then I don't really know anywhere else. Amata and I got along pretty well... not so much for Butch and the rest of his lackeys. I guess for the most part they weren't too bad to deal with. And hey! I remembered it was my birthday just in time for my birthday. Turned 20 today!

And it turns out this thing isn't just a worthless piece of junk. Must've fixed itself or something, because some of the menus aren't junk data anymore. It's almost usable like this. At least it's something.

[Private; very easily hackable]
No one ever enters... and no one ever leaves. Vault 101 must be like paradise to anyone unlucky enough to be left alive. The bombs dropped almost two hundred years ago, but it's still a radioactive wasteland. Nothing survives easily up there. It's... it's...

Dammit, what the hell did I do to deserve this? Why am I in some place where you can't even get to work without going outside? How did I even leave the Vault? There's orders to kill anyone looking to get out, and I don't even know how to open the door...

((1% memory used on Vault 101, her education, and rather general Pre-War knowledge. 1% total, 0% remaining.))

Happy birthday! That's a nice thing to remember.

Um, I don't know anyone named Lincoln, though, sorry.

Y'know, can't say I've ever met someone with pink hair before.

Ah, really? It seems ordinary to me for some reason...maybe because I have it?

From: [identity profile] survival-101.livejournal.com
Probably. Doesn't seem ordinary to me at all.

Ah, well...I'm sorry? I don't think it's something I can change, though. Your hair is very pretty!

Huh? Oh, thanks. Y'know, no one else in the Vault had red hair. Wonder how I got it.

Maybe your parents had red hair!

From: [identity profile] survival-101.livejournal.com
Maybe. I don't remember either of them yet, so who knows.

I'm sure you'll remember them soon!

Here's hoping.

What's your name?

MOMO! What's your name?

Catherine. Nice to meet you, MOMO. Been here long?

From: [identity profile] etherbow.livejournal.com
Just a day! But I've met lots of nice people so far. Have you been here long, Catherine?

About three weeks or so? Maybe closer to a month?

[Not entirely sure, she brings up her left arm and the mounted computer on it, hits a few buttons, and puts it back down.]

Huh, three weeks exact. Who would've guessed?

From: [identity profile] etherbow.livejournal.com
Oh, wow! [Looks at the computer with interest; she doesn't remember enough about technology to know much about it, but hey, neat!] What's that?

From: [identity profile] survival-101.livejournal.com
[And with that smile, you know she's happy someone asked.]

Pip-Boy 3000! Don't know what the 3000 is for, but that doesn't matter. It's an arm-mounted computer, limited functions, and I'm not really sure what it's capable of; seems a bit on the broken side. Got it when I was ten, and the only thing I know for sure is that it's got something that charts out a map. Wherever I go, it automatically fills the thing in.

[She hits a few more buttons and brings up a particularly incomplete map of the town and shows her.]

Not sure how much help it's going to be to anyone here, since I can't get this thing off my arm, but it's something.

[MOMO seems genuinely interested, leaning over to look at it, and rather impressed, too.]

Oh!! Well, it seems like it would be helpful to you! And maybe you'll figure out other things it does. [Bright smile.] Maybe you could make copies of the map somehow? I'm not sure, but it's amazing!

From: [identity profile] survival-101.livejournal.com
Huh, that's a good idea. I don't think I've ever seen maps of the place before.

[She sounds... quite hesitant about this idea.]

From: [identity profile] etherbow.livejournal.com
I haven't! But I haven't seen a lot. [Blinks.] Do you not want to? It's fine if you don't want to, of course! It's your Pip-Boy 3000, right? [Yeah, she's worried.]

From: [identity profile] survival-101.livejournal.com
Oh, no, I'm, ah, I'm just wondering what I would need to get this underway. Yeah.

From: [identity profile] etherbow.livejournal.com
Ah, let me know if I can help at all, then!!

Now that is some convenient timing.

I know, right? I was wondering if it was supposed to come immediately or not, but damn.

Yeah, seriously. I have no fucking clue when mine is.

Huh, seriously? How long have you been here, anyway?

Man, I think I need a drink or ten now. Wanna come? My treat, since, y'know, it's your birthday and all.

Sure, given enough motivation.

I mean, I'm not expecting, "Free beer, fuck yeah!" but something a little higher on the scale than terror would be nice. I'm not that bad.

Look, it's not- oh, fuck it, it's gonna sound horrible however I put it, so let's just go and get drunk.
